Derek and Don return home from Las Vegas to report on the events at the GAMA Trade Show. We talked to a lot of great people, ate a lot of great food, lost a lot of good money, and collected a list of new games for review. |
We have been attending the GAMA Trade Show for years in one capacity or another. It is a must attend for retailers. There are a bunch of great seminars to help you bolster your business and lots of opportunity to meet with manufacturers that want nothing more than for you to be successful selling their games. There is plenty of time to meet with other retailers and learn from each other. With any spare time you might have, there is ample entertainment at the show and all over Las Vegas.
We also spend some time talking about Games To Troops. This is a program designed so that you can send games to our troops overseas. With so much going all over the world, this is a great way to contribute to moral.

Some of the new products awaiting review or brought up in conversation include:

Today we are treated to the company of Marcelo Figueroa. He gives us some insight to a few games and the unique experiences they offer. Aside from the games, Marcelo also gives us a glance at the business and what it takes to take the games to market. |
| Marcelo found his way into the game industry by volunteering for demo teams. He wrote reviews for a while giving us reason to ask for his advise on the subject. Now, he is the Marketing Director for Alderac Entertainment Group. AEG has a wide selection of games but today’s discussion leads us more toward Legend of the Five Rings and Warlord. |

Anizona went well and we look forward now to the GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas. This time of year is wonderfully busy for us as we visit with more industry professionals and line up interviews for the coming months. Discussions around our recent guests continues today with some terminology offered by the Forge. |
| We spent a moment with Kevin Devico. He shared a Bent Castle Workshops game with us called Numbers League. This game makes a wonderful replacement to flash cards. Why not sneak your math in while the kids are having fun defeating villains by putting together super heroes? |

The For Dummies review today is Dungeons & Dragons for Dummies. Jeremiah gives us a peek at the book and adds his advice to the intellectual soup we started cooking last week on not just running a good game, but being a good player. This book is a great resource for someone just starting to play or someone that wants to get an idea of what this strange game is all about. |
After just one show, Games Expo has laid down to rest. Matthews Simmons Marketing has sold Games Quarterly Catalog but the rest of its endeavors will no longer be available to the industry. These projects include Games Quarterly Magazine and the official management of National Games Week.
The promo you heard today was from the Geeklabel podcast. Apart from the podcast, they have some great products and a fun web site.

Off all the feed back, the overriding theme is advice to a beginning GM. Exalted is a specific target of the inquiry but the art is the same regardless of the game. Dungeons & Dragons is mentioned a lot just because this question seemed to be timed well with our review of Dungeon Master for Dummies. |
 |
Today’s look at For Dummies naturally takes us to Dungeon Master For Dummies. While this book is targeted directly at Dungeons and Dragons, it lends some great advice for storytelling in any game system. It starts with the very basics but covers some advanced topics of entertainment and campaign management. It is certainly a recommended buy for new and and novice GMs alike. |
| While speaking of advice on running a game, visual aids came up as a topic and The Earth Cube Book was mentioned. It has some great photographs that can be used for inspiration and as visual aids for your wilderness adventuring party. |
 |
The entertaining promo for todays show was from Lovecraftiana. They specialize in Cthulhu merchandise. Your patronage goes to support a great group of folks and the Yog-Sothoth web site.
We will see you next week. We are headed now to Anizona!
