We have a studio full and a great time. We talked about the gaming environment and finally closed the show with our discussion of mechanics and how much of an impact they have on the roleplaying game. We were also very excited to find from CNN a singles venue around games called Play Date.

We touched on a few games today, but some of those most notable include Empire Builder, EABAnywhere, and what is now called The Sales Activator shown to me by my sales friend from New View Group.

We almost got Uncle Bear to join us today and expect him soon. He was the inspiration for our main topic. Be sure to visit his blog and perhaps you will find your muse as well.

Peter contacted us about coldwars by hmgs. I look forward to hearing more about it!

It breaks my heart that I couldn't be there, because I was so looking forward to it. But I was brutally sick and my wife took away my car keys. :(

Bo hit my point right on the head at the very end. I never said that system doesn't matter, but sometimes setting matters more. People flock to the "CSI Gotham" concept because it's a cool idea, not because of the system it uses. However, if the system (Primetime Adventures in this case) didn't allow Thomas to deliver on the promise and potential of the setting, he'd certainly be hemorrhaging players no matter how good a GM he is. It's not a matter of whether system matters, it's a matter of WHEN system matters.

I'm in the middle of the cast, and I had a thought about chase scenes.

It seems to me that they are about terrain and obstacles. With those, a chase scene becomes dynamic and tactical and unpredictable. The little old lady crossing the street, the shortcut down the alley way to cut of the runners, the traffic jam that forces everyone on foot. Even D&D, with things like this tossed in, could provide for fun exciting chase scenes.

Regarding playing environments, I just wanted to let you know that the Brilliant Gameologists have just released an entire episode dealing with gaming venues, to be found here: http://brilliantgameologists.com/blog/69
and there's even a chart!

Speaking of role-playing settings mechanics... Have any of you talented GMs introduced a board game as an additional abstraction to the action within the RPG? For instance, in order to simulate a big battle, have you used a game like Battleground Fantasy Warfare? To simulate an air battle, have you used Wings of War?
